Request Assistance from YMN's Technical Assistance Pool

One of the best ways for youth to get involved in the movement is to empower them with the knowledge and power to become their own change agents. Youth M.O.V.E. National accomplishes this by offering a wide selection of speaking and training engagements tailored to your needs. Whether you are a new youth group looking to create a strong peer-to-peer support committee, a bustling youth group looking to increase your funding options for sustainability purposes, or a organization looking to become youth allies to youth-guided care, we have a youth representative and an engagement for every occasion.

Our consultants come from various, diverse backgrounds. Each consultant has numerous years experience in public speaking for both youth groups and adults, speaking on authentic youth involvement. Each consultant has lived experience and skills that lend themselves to topics such as bullying, LGBTQI2S, etc. in the various youth serving systems (mental health, juvenile justice, foster care, child welfare, etc.). When an engagement request is submitted, Youth M.O.V.E. National will pair the best representative for the topics you want addressed.

Types of Engagements Offered

We offer different types of engagements for youth groups, youth allies, and partner organizations. These engagements fall into the following categories:

Keynotes

We offer keynotes where a consultant will come to your event to empower youth to become their own change agents in their communities. Keynotes often involve an inspirational story or motiviational message or dialogue in which the requesting organization is then able to use to get youth more involved in their communities. Keynotes may range in length from fifteen minutes to an hour.

Recommended # of Consultants: 1

Panel Member

Sometimes, you might want a consultant to sit on a panel to discuss youth involvement or give input on a particular subject. We offer engagements tailored to panel member discussion around a general or specific topic. Often, panel members will speak on a subject anywhere from thirty minutes to two hours.

Recommended # of Consultants: 1 – 3, based on topics to be discussed

General Session

A general session will often include a plenary where a consultant will speak to the audience on general topics such as youth involvement, the benefits of joining Youth M.O.V.E. National, anti-stigma efforts in mental health, etc. This is a great middle ground to those who want the aspects of a workshop or breakout session, but to a larger audience, like those that might be present in a keynote.

Recommended # of Consultants: 1 for short sessions, 2 for longer, all day sessions.

Workshops/Breakout

Our consultants will come to your event to talk about youth involvement or any other topic of your choosing, ranging from sustainability to policy to peer-to peer-support. This type of engagement often involves facilitated discussions and group work with youth or youth allies to get them involved in the youth movement.

Recommended # of Consultants: 1 for short workshops, 2 for longer workshops.

Day Long Trainings

This type of engagement is similar to a workshops, but are often longer and more rigorous. They will often follow a theme that the requesting organization has set up for a consultant to follow. These types of engagements often require extra time and attention to set up and complete as they will most likely, but not always, include a keynote or some type of extra activity/follow up.

Recommended # of Consultants: 2 - 3

Meeting Facilitation

Our consultants will come to your event to facilitate a meeting. Some of the meetings that our consultants will often facilitate include developing a strategic plan, a peer-to-peer support model, etc. These facilitated meetings can be anywhere from a few hours to a day event.

Recommended # of Consultants: 1 for short meetings, 2 for longer, all day meetings.

Conference Call

Conference calls are great if you want to have a facilitated meeting but cannot afford to bring in a consultant to your community. Most of the same topics and ideas that would be discussed in a facilitated meeting can be discussed on a conference call, in a shorter timeframe. Conference calls usually last anywhere from an hour to a half day.

Recommended # of Consultants: 1

Webinar

We currently offer webinar engagements where a consultant will develop, present, and facilitate a discussion through the use of webinar software. This is a great opportunity for requesting organizations that may not be able to physically bring in a consultant to their community. Much like a conference call, webinars can be presented on a wide variety of subjects and will usually vary in length from an hour to a few.

Recommended # of Consultants: 1 for short webinars, 2 for longer webinars.

Other Engagements

Engagements are not limited to just these types. We often get requests for other types of engagements. If you are not sure if your engagement falls into one of these categories, just give us a call (800.580.6199), and we will be happy to work with you.

The Engagement Request Process

Please find the process for fulfilling engagement requests below:

Please fill out the engagement request form -- be sure to read through the form to get an understanding of what needs to be completed in order for us to get the process started. Do not forget to read the engagements offered section to better understand the types of engagements available. You can also view that list here.

Once you fill out this form, you will be contacted by our office within one week. We will discuss the request with you. If we have any questions or need more clarification, we will work with you on getting that cleared up.

Then, we will work to assign a consultant and set up a call between you, the representative and our staff to make sure everyone understands the requirements and expectations of each party.

This discussion will then be drafted into an MOU which will need to be signed by both parties: the requesting organization and Youth M.O.V.E. National. The MOU will state the nature of the engagement, cost, travel and content to be delivered. Once the MOU is signed, the consultant will work with the requesting party on logistics, including transportation and lodging.

Following each engagement, evaluations will be filled out by participants and returned to Youth M.O.V.E. National within two weeks.

Upon completion of the engagement by the consultant, Youth M.O.V.E. National staff will contact you to make sure everything went as planned.

Pricing

Pricing for engagements are available on request and are based on the type, length and depth of engagement offered.

For lengthier engagements or custom tailored engagements, we will work with you on setting up a competitive price for the engagement.

Important Note: This fee does not include the cost of flights, lodging or per diem (please see Logistics below).

Logistics

We ask that all flights, lodging, and per diem be set up within your organization. This allows for your organization to track the travel of our consultants should a problem arise e.g. delayed flight. Per diem for each consultant, at the GSA rate (minus provided meals), should be also be submitted to Youth M.O.V.E. National, to be forwarded onto the consultant, no later than two weeks before the event. Per diem checks can be made out to Youth M.O.V.E. National.

It is expected that the requesting organization will provide basics such as meeting space, projectors, and flip boards. Our consultants will bring with them their presentations and, if applicable, appropriate paperwork such as handouts, worksheets, etc. Finally, the requesting organization should also provide the planned agenda for the event to the consultant ahead of time so that the consultant can effectively prepare to bring the required materials needed for the engagement.

Important Note: Engagement request forms must be received at least 30 days in advance of your requested event date. This allows our staff adequate time to process your engagement request. Please also note that while we will do our best to find a youth representative for your event, we cannot guarantee that we’ll be able to fulfill your request if there are no suitable youth representatives available during your requested date. It’s highly recommended that you submit an engagement request as early as possible so that you can secure a youth representative for your event.

In observance of Awareness Day 2017, we collaborated with the American Art Therapy Association and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Head Start to send out a call for art from youth and young adults. Together, we invited young artists to show how they interpreted the words “I am a work of art.” All submissions were created with the recognition that art can provide a powerful strategy for working through behavioral health challenges. This inspiring digital exhibition is the result of hundreds of submissions—and you can check it out right now: https://arttherapy.org/i-am-a-work-of-art-2/
