Tyrus Curtis

Tyrus Curtis, is a long-time advocate on the behalf of youth and families with child welfare and mental health systems involvement. He spent from the ages of 3-16 in foster care before getting adopted by his long-time foster mother. Mr. Curtis served as a founding member and the first President of Youth MOVE National and was honored for his work with the Young Adult Leadership VOICE award by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) in 2009. Mr. Curtis also served on the Board of Directors for the Federation of Families for Children's Mental Health. After receiving his BA in Business Administration, he served as a consultant for the American Institute for Research and the Technical Assistance Partnership, where he focused on facilitating strategic planning, logic model development, and trauma informed and youth driven services for youth and family organizations. Mr. Curtis continues to ensure youth are given a voice in driving their services in his current position at Aichorn as a childcare worker. He looks forward to pursuing an advanced degree in the near future. In his free time, he enjoys martial arts, reading and writing poetry, and spending time with his family.

Marvin Alexander is a Clinical Social Worker and Youth Support Coordinator at Magellan in Louisiana. Marvin is a founding member of the Board of Directors for Youth MOVE National, Inc. Mr. Alexander is a skilled clinician and passionate advocate. With lived experience in children's residential centers, juvenile detention, alternative schools, and a host of different child service programs; Mr. Alexander knows what it's like being "that youth" or the "subject" of service provision.

At a young age, Mr. Alexander has experienced success in the face of adversity. His awards include Global Student Leader Award for Leadership in China/Hong Kong and the Distinguished Service Award, and Distinguished Alumni Award- all from the Arkansas State University, "Spirit and Resiliency" Recognition from the National Federation of Families for Children's Mental Health, and the Young Adult Leadership Voice Award from SAMHSA in 2008. He has been involved in various projects including the National Building Bridges Initiative for Children's Mental Health, National Network to End Disparities in Mental Health and the International Initiative for Mental Health Leadership.

Mr. Alexander is also very involved in the National Children's System of Care Initiative and has worked in Arkansas as a Youth Involvement Coordinator, local clinician, and Transitional Services Coordinator. Appointed by Gov. Mike Beebe, he has served on the Arkansas Children's Behavioral Health Commission. Mr. Alexander is proud alumni of Arkansas State University, where he received his bachelor's degree in Social Work and currently serves as an adjunct instructor in social work. Mr. Alexander's master's degree is also in Social Work, received from Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida. Mr. Alexander later received a Graduate Certificate in Conflict Mediation from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. A graduate of Georgetown University Leadership Academy, he is a champion for children and youth with interest in facilitating cross-cultural and cross-generational dialogue to advance the idea of working across differences to better serve children, youth and families.
