The 2021 Rockstar Awards have come to a close, and there are so many people to thank for the amazing RAVE we had on Twitch. This year, we launched the Rockstar Fundraiser, a way to sponsor Rockstars and give them perks to help them in their professional journey for youth advocacy in mental health. We had three very generous sponsors and want to highlight the phenomenal work they do to help youth and young adults change systems for the better! Today, we want to look at the Hackett Center for Mental Health as a proud sponsor of Rockstar 2021 and a partner to Youth MOVE National!
According to the World Health Organization, half of all mental illnesses begin by age 14, and unfortunately, the majority of these cases go undetected and untreated. In response, The Hackett Center for Mental Health is focusing on enhancing policies and practices that improve mental illness prevention, early intervention and treatment, and make a lasting positive impact in people’s lives.
The Hackett Center for Mental Health is the Meadows Mental Health Policy Institute’s first regional center, focused on the unique needs of Greater Houston and the Texas Gulf Coast. The Hackett Center began in 2018 with a mission to help heal Gulf Coast communities traumatized by Hurricane Harvey. Since then, The Hackett Center has advanced mental health initiatives – primarily focused on children, youth, and families – to improve lives across the region. With a focus on putting policy into practice, during its first three years, The Hackett Center team has supported implementation of trauma-informed care, worked to improve student mental health in schools, conducted community assessments, and addressed the needs of youth in the child welfare and juvenile justice systems.
Launched in 2020, The Hackett Center is now home to the Trauma and Grief (TAG) Center, which raises the standard of care and increases access to best practice treatment for youth who have experienced trauma and bereavement. By forming key partnerships and successfully acquiring private, state, and federal funding, The Hackett Center is working to expand access and increase treatment capacity for the more than 310,000 children and youth who experience mental illness and substance use disorders each year in Harris County, as well as to improve the mental health and emotional wellness of children and youth across Texas and throughout the nation.
