Youth Peer Support
Youth MOVE National (YMN) is the only national, youth-led and driven, chapter based organization with a validated, evidence based, peer reviewed, youth peer support curriculum built for, and by, systems impacted youth and youth peer supporters, that not only meets and exceeds most state accreditation standards, but meets all federal standards as well (we should know, we help write them). We have worked directly with the federal Department of Health and Human Services, the Biden / Harris White House, and train the entire workforces of several states – it is safe to say we are the leading organization expanding youth peer support across the United States, and we can help you do the same. YMN supports organizations interested in implementing Youth Peer Support (YPS) with an evidence-based training grounded in social learning theory and trauma-informed care.
As an organization with 20+ years of experience in youth advocacy, systems change work, and YPS program development, YMN plans to continue this work for years to come.
Why Youth Peer Support Matters
Youth Peer Support (YPS) provides communities with access to co-designed, culturally responsive, and real-world applicable strategies that center youth voice and lived experience. As a youth-led organization, Youth MOVE National is deeply committed to advancing youth-driven mental health solutions. Our YPS work is not only grounded in lived expertise – it is backed by evidence, values-based leadership, and a commitment to equity.
Psychology (and the broader mental health field) has a responsibility to ensure that all individuals, especially those from under-resourced and underserved communities, receive equitable, affirming, and relevant support. Too often, standards of care have been shaped by dominant and privileged perspectives within academia, neglecting the unique challenges and strengths of youth who have been pushed to the margins. By placing youth with lived experience at the center of support efforts, we begin to correct that imbalance.
Implementing youth peer support is a complex but deeply impactful process. According to Turuba et al. (2023), success requires a structured roadmap that includes thoughtful planning, adequate resources, and sustained partnerships. When done well, YPS doesn’t just benefit individual participants – it fosters community healing, leadership development, and long-term systems transformation.
Our work ensures that peer support is not just a service:
it’s a movement led by youth, for youth.
